Structure and Governance

UNESCO-CEPES activities are monitored by an Advisory Board consisting of seven prominent academics and personalities, who are appointed by the Director-General of UNESCO, as well as observers, who are representatives of the Council of Europe, the European Commission, OECD, and the European University Association (EUA). The Advisory Board also serves as the Regional Follow-up Committee for the Europe Region of the UNESCO World Conference on Higher Education.

UNESCO-CEPES activities are funded from the Regular Budget of UNESCO, contributions by the host country, as well as from extra-budgetary resources obtained by the Centre.

The UNESCO-CEPES staff consists currently of twenty-three members divided into two categories: internationally recruited professional staff members and locally recruited professional and technical staff members. It also welcomes visiting scholars and interns.

UNESCO-CEPES is located in a historical building, provided by the Romanian Government, the Kretzulescu Palace.
