Practical Information Note for Internship Candidates

Please note that the following pre-conditions should be considered when applying for an internship with UNESCO-CEPES (which include the general UNESCO requirements as well as those specific to UNESCO-CEPES):

  • Academic qualifications: at the time of application, candidates must be pursuing graduate or postgraduate studies and have completed their undergraduate studies.

  • Languages: excellent spoken and written knowledge of one of the following two UNESCO working languages: English or French. Knowledge of Russian would also be an asset.

  • Computer skills: ability to use office-related software (MS Office) is imperative.

  • Availability: the duration of a proposed internship must be between two and six months.

It is a UNESCO wide rule not to remunerate or pay interns. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are also the sole responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.

UNESCO accepts no responsibility for the medical insurance of interns, or for costs arising from accidents and illness incurred during an internship. Interns are fully responsible for arranging, at their own expense, health and other forms of insurance covering the period of internship at UNESCO.

Applicants for internship must provide a medical certificate of good health prior to being admitted to the organization’s internship programme.

Internships are a personal initiative, and as such they constitute part of the candidate’s studies or professional development; they entail no commitment on the part of UNESCO. As the internship programme is not connected with the recruitment process, the granting of an internship should not be interpreted in any way as a preliminary step towards employment at the organization.

Applications must be submitted to UNESCO with a copy to UNESCO-CEPES at least one month before the proposed start of the internship period. Please specify that you envisage an internship at UNESCO-CEPES. The application form can only be completed and submitted online via StageWeb, at <http://stageweb.unesco.org>.
