From “Gender Studies” to Gender in Studies:
Gender Inclusive Curriculum in Higher Education:
Problems, Politics,
Possibilities
Beyond unquestionable successes in the area of teaching
Women /Gender/ Feminist Studies within higher education institutions
as separate, independent programmes, gender related topics are still
underrepresented in higher education curriculum. The UNESCO-CEPES
project “From Gender Studies to Gender IN Studies: Gender Inclusive
Curriculum in Higher Education” (2010-2011) will: (i) explore the
processes in place to incorporate gender into specific academic
disciplines; (ii) identify and share obstacles and good practices in
gender mainstreaming higher education curricula in countries from
SEE and (iii) produce arguments for the importance of a gender
sensitive content, teaching and researching in higher education.
A
set of case studies and guidelines for gender mainstreaming
curriculum will be published and a special web page containing
various on-line reference materials (such as samples of gender
mainstreamed curricula, bibliographical references on the theme and
relevant contacts from the region) will be produced.
